"Melancholic Marfa" by Abby Svetlik

July 28, 2016

I spent the first week of July in west Texas with my family. Besides it being hella hot and spending AGES in the car everyday, we visited a small town called Marfa. Marfa is a small but lovely artists' community full of locally-owned galleries. Yet, there was a distinct loneliness to the place; especially in the early morning when I took these photographs. I took these photos in the hopes of capturing that sense of solidarity and humbleness that radiated from everything from the ramshackle front porches to the old ice plant to the pump-less gas station.
