I recently went to Ottawa’s annual Folk Festival, where I both listened to and photographed some wonderfully talented musicians in this year’s lineup.
There were a lot of compelling, remarkable performances - from Julien Baker’s concert, filled with her signature seamless combination of expressive, dynamic lyrics and gentle melodies, to Lake Street Dive’s ‘spectacularly successful’ & superbly soulful sounds. Since it was my first time seeing either of those bands, I wanted to capture some of their incredible passion and the musical transcendence that characterized their awesome live performances.
I also had fun discovering other artists that I hadn’t previously heard of, like Lost Cousins and Blind Pilot, and listening to their songs for the first time at the festival.
I’ve selected an assortment of photos to share from some of the standout performances that I saw there. Already excited for next year’s folk fest!
