"Pomegranate" by Sarah Al-shimary

February 10, 2018

My name is Sarah Al-shimary, I live in Las Vegas, I am 16, and I write to give meaning to myself and the world around me. I will be submitting two original works of poetry both inspired by events going on in a past life.

Here is Sarah's first piece:

"Pomegranate"

open me up

blood red split carcass spills over yellow encompassing skin

clenching
like thunderstorm cracked fingers
over remorseless dense fingers
mistaken for guiding hand

open me up

rooted in stillness grown tired of roaring
refugee stripped of an island

clockwork apology for a mess i haven’t caused
ribs ricochet broken cage
expose my heart for forbidden fruit

have a taste
